Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta: Dates, Content, and Access Guide

Understanding the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta

The Open Beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 offers players a vital opportunity to experience the game's mechanics firsthand before the official launch on October 23, 2026. Participating in the beta is more than just a chance to play early; it serves as a testing ground for the development team at Infinity Ward, allowing them to gather essential feedback to ensure a polished Day One experience.

Whether you are a long-time fan of the franchise or a newcomer, the Beta is designed to showcase a variety of playstyles, ranging from traditional multiplayer combat to specific campaign and Warzone experiences. This guide covers everything you need to know to prepare, download, and jump into the action.

Beta Schedule and Pre-load Information

Timing is critical for Open Beta events, as they are typically limited-time experiences. To ensure you don't miss out, mark the following schedule on your calendar.

Tip

Pre-load to Save Time: We highly recommend pre-loading the beta files as soon as they become available. This ensures that the moment the servers go live, you can jump straight into the action without waiting for a large download to complete.

• Pre-load Start Date: August 26, 2026, at 9:00 AM PT.
• Open Beta Start Date: August 28, 2026, at 10:00 AM PT.
• Open Beta End Date: September 1, 2026, at 10:00 AM PT.

Please note that actual platform availability and launch dates for the Multiplayer Beta are subject to change based on development needs. Ensure your internet connection is stable, and check for any required online multiplayer subscriptions that may be necessary for your specific platform.

Beta Content: What to Expect

The Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta provides a substantial slice of the game, highlighting different aspects of the upcoming full release. You will have access to a mix of competitive multiplayer modes and even a glimpse into the campaign and Warzone integration.

Core Multiplayer

Experience the classic Call of Duty feel with various 6v6 maps and modes, designed to test your tactical skills and reaction times.

Ground War: Combat Outpost

Engage in large-scale warfare. Combat Outpost is designed for higher player counts, offering a more chaotic and strategic battlefield compared to standard modes.

Kill Block

A new mode debuting in the beta. Players should expect unique mechanics that differentiate this from standard TDM or objective-based games.

Campaign: "Entrenched"

Get a sneak peek into the narrative of Modern Warfare 4 by playing the specific mission "Entrenched." This is an excellent way to gauge the game's atmosphere and storytelling direction.

Zodiac Resurgence

Warzone players can dive into the new Zodiac Resurgence map, providing a fresh setting for the battle royale experience.

Rewards and Progression

One of the most compelling reasons to participate in the Open Beta is the opportunity to earn in-game rewards. These items are unlocked by completing specific challenges or simply by playing during the beta period.

Items earned during the beta will be immediately available for use within the beta environment. More importantly, these rewards are designed to carry over to the full version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 once the game officially launches in October. This gives players a head start on customization and gear before the full game is even released.

Accessing the Beta on Your Platform

The Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta is widely accessible across multiple platforms. Unlike some early access periods, this Open Beta does not require a pre-order.

1. Visit Your Store: Navigate to your platform's storefront (e.g., Steam, PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store).
2. Search: Look for "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4" or the specific "Open Beta" listing.
3. Download: Once the pre-load window opens (August 26), initiate the download.
4. Launch: On August 28 at 10:00 AM PT, launch the application to connect to the servers.

Players on Steam (AppID: 4435490) should ensure their system meets the necessary requirements, including TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, which are common requirements for modern PC titles from Activision.

Pre-Ordering vs. Participating

It is important to clearly distinguish between the Open Beta and the full game. You do not need to pre-order Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to access the Open Beta. The beta is open to all players on supported platforms.

However, if you are planning to purchase the game, there are distinct differences between the Standard and Vault Editions.

• Standard Edition: Includes the base game and access to pre-order bonuses like Campaign Early Access (starting October 16) and DMZ Early Access (starting October 20).
• Vault Edition: Includes everything in the Standard Edition, plus additional content such as the BlackCell (1 Season), various Operator Packs (Hunter Killer, Hostile Alliance, Special Forces), and the Signature Weapon Collection.

The pre-order loyalty discount is available for players who own and have played a Call of Duty title released in 2019 or after on the same platform account.

Do I need to pre-order to play the Beta?

No. The Open Beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is free for all players to access on supported platforms. No pre-order is required.
